Automated Solutions to empower consumers to control appliances through mobile phones

Promoting consumer safety and sustainable growth is mission critical for BSES. In a bid to further these, BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) and Schneider Electric, a global leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, have signed a far-reaching Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The partnership seeks to make electricity usage safer, smarter and sustainable using cutting edge technology and creating awareness. This will be accomplished through two programs and working closely with the Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Industrial Welfare Associations and nominated local electricians in East and Central Delhi.

Program 1: Preventing electrical mishaps through electrician trainings

Electrical hazards – short circuits and leakage of electricity can be dangerous for human life. Simple precautions and proper practices can go a long way in preventing them. For this, a unique training program will be launched for the local electricians and those nominated by RWAs in East and Central Delhi. Under the day-long interactive sessions, the electricians will be sensitised and educated on various issues relating to internal house wiring, prevention of short circuits and electrical fires, importance of installing ELCB’s/RCCB’s, sharing of the best industry practices and the latest developments like home automation.

In addition, the training sessions will also serve as a refresher course for those trained by BSES earlier and share their field-level real-life experiences with those attending the program for the first time. The updated list of these electricians will uploaded on BSES’ website and mobile app.

Program 2: Home Automation Solutions for consumers & preventing electrical shocks

In the second program, the consumers will be offered a range of attractively priced safety and home automation products. Through ‘Easy Home’ Schneider range of home automation solutions; consumers will be able to convert their “normal” home into a “Smart home” by converting every switch and appliance into a connected device (IoT ready). Through this, consumers will be able to control their appliances and switches remotely from anywhere through their mobile phone. Also, the smart sensors will automatically turn-off the lights in a room, the moment it is empty. To demonstrate the technology, a pilot will also be undertaken, where the selected houses will be made ‘smart’. Home automation is expected to play a big role in energy conservation”.

Apart from home automation solutions, consumers will also be offered attractively priced Schneider Electric’s ( Easy 9) Residual Current Circuit Breakers (RCCB), an important fire safety device that detects even a small “current to earth” (earth leakage) in one’s premises, automatically tripping and disconnecting electricity supply to the premises/ equipment, thus preventing serious mishaps. Another useful benefit of installing an RCCB is that, it also detects faulty and intermixing of internal wiring. On detection, the RCCB immediately trips, thus preventing potential wastage of electricity and accidents. Moreover, under section 42 of the Central Electricity Act (CEA) Regulation 2015, it is mandatory for all consumers having electricity load of 2 Kilowatt and above, to have a ELCB/RCCB installed at their premises

Commenting on the signing of the MoU, BYPL CEO, Mr P R Kumar said, “We at BSES are committed to energy efficiency, sustainable growth and consumer safety and have been regularly implementing various innovative initiatives on this front. This partnership with Schneider Electric is a testimonial to these efforts. I am sure, this association with will not only enable us to leverage each-other’s strength, but also give a further boost to our efforts to increase safety and conserve energy. It will also empower consumers a great deal.”

Speaking about the agreement, Ms. Monalisa Badola, Director, Home & Distribution , Schneider Electric India, “Our partnership with BSES Yamuna is an expression of Schneider Electric’s commitment towards safety in electrical distribution. We are delighted to partner with BSES in taking this key message to their extended ecosystem. Along with reducing environmental impact, we hope this effort will impact the end consumers in being efficient in energy consumption ensuring ‘Life is On’ everywhere and at all time.”
