USA – May 01, 2020 – The issues that women most often deal with sometimes make it into the films and shows that we watch. Through visual stories, men can peek into experiences such as human trafficking, work and pay discrimination, spousal abuse, unwanted attention, and the list goes on. Vyre Network brings attention to these issues by way of a playlist dedicated to showcasing films and series with heavy focus on situations that women deal with everywhere.

HELLO FOREVER

This drama film is the story of 4 courageous women who are faced with the harsh realities of poverty, prejudice, and corruption. Starting with the seedy side of the Filipino human trafficking industry, the women fight their way to a point where they become not only victims but the purveyors of crime.

The Sci-Fi thriller #SHE is a wild journey through the warped mind of seven of the best up-and-coming female directors. Female horseplay, aliens, and revenge round out this Intense anthology.

Q.U.E.E.N.

Q.U.E.E.N. tells the story of a teenage girl with a troubled past who uses writing as her muse to say all the things she is too afraid to say. Through self-discovery and a little bit of courage, Imani faces her biggest fear at a rap battle. In an era, of rape culture being a norm, Q.U.E.E.N. chooses to show a girl tackling her fears fearlessly in spite of inner turmoil. Q.U.E.E.N. has won several awards and features Hip Hop artist Nyemiah Supreme as the lead, and recording artist Elle Varner as well.

THE RISE OF EVE

An intense examination of misogyny and prejudice against women around the world explored through news, music, social media, personal accounts, group discussions and heated debates. The Rise of Eve preceded the #metoo movement with its daring approach as a disruptor to the status quo “isms” that pervades all societies. But The Rise of Eve does not stop at high profile harassment. The documentary examines the common denominators and the common people in various societies yesterday and today. The Rise of Eve takes the scope from #metoo to #me2.0.

BACK TO NATURAL

This documentary outlines the ways in which race, identity, and hair are all related and offers a compassionate viewpoint on issues that affect African descendants. Woman not being allowed to wear their hair naturally as it grows out of their head has been an issue for decades and this project interviews women about the different experiences that they deal with regularly.

NO CHILL THE SERIES

On a lighter note, the comedy series “No Chill” follows Janelle and Sophie as they work on finding their intuition. This series features, two young ladies navigating through life as millennials throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. Each episode features a new “No Chill” situation. How will these ladies navigate relationships? Being Authentic? Patriarchy? Self-Esteem? Saying NO to guys they’re not really interested in? Watch and see.
